Lagos: Cultural Capital of the Black Globe

Greetings Reader–

For the better part of the last millennium, Lagos has been the pulse of the Black Globe. In spite of the city's precarious infrastructure, no other city in the world offers the unique convergence of global Black genius, ambition and economic density found in Lagos.

From the trade in human capital to the trade in creative intelligence, Lagos has long been central to the fates of east and west alike—just as much as to that of the African continent.

If you care about Black futures, or care about humanity, you'll want to pay close attention to the future emerging from Lagos–and the fight to fend off the enemies of her progress.

The Black-out Capital of the World

Generators, remittances and the fight for our shared sovereign future.

Whether they admit it or not, Washington, London, Paris and Beijing are deeply invested in what happens in Lagos.

The most populous Black city in the world, with the highest concentration of Black founders and creatives, Lagos has the raw materials for a cultural revolution. One that would effortlessly reverberate across the Black globe.

As scary as the daily realities are for working class people, the talent of Lagos can and must get it right. The suffering is a feature, not a bug. The city just needs new cultural software.

Eko's Creative Gold Rush

Lagos pours billions into festivals and art fairs while artists debate who truly benefits from the boom.

The Black west this month is oriented towards the mastery of Black History—something that must become a daily staple in every Black home on the planet, every day of the year.

But as Black futurists have taught us, this focus on our history must always orient us to the future.

While the “Epstein Files” are sealing the fate of the fallen empire, we encourage you to turn your hearts toward the Black future, a time (and space) whose heartbeat can not but pulse through Lagos—the cultural and economic capital of the Black Globe.
